Verify an MD5 Checksum
Check whether text or a file matches a published MD5 checksum. Paste the expected hash and compare.
Part of the free MD5 Hash Generator. Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Verify an MD5 Checksum
Paste the expected MD5 and hash the same input. The verifier tells you whether they match so you do not have to compare 32 hex characters by eye.
Worked example: A matching pair
Two MD5 digests
expected: 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592 actual: 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592

✓ Match
Practical tip
Compare after lowercasing. Some tools print MD5 in uppercase and others in lowercase — the bits are the same.
How to use this MD5 Generator
- 1Use the live tool above — it runs entirely in your browser and never uploads your data.
- 2Paste the sample from the worked example, or use your own input.
- 3Copy the result, then adapt the same steps in your editor, script, or pipeline.
Verify an MD5 Checksum FAQs
A match means the file is safe, right?
It means the bytes match the published digest. If an attacker changed both the file and the published MD5, verification still passes. Prefer SHA-256 and signed checksums.
What if they do not match?
Re-download once. If it still fails, do not open the file.
