Compare Two Hash Values

Compare two hex hashes and see if they match. Useful when a vendor checksum and your local digest disagree.

Compare Two Hash Values

A visual compare of two long hex strings is error-prone. Paste both into the verifier (or hash the same input twice) and let the tool tell you whether they are equal.

Worked example: Same input hashed twice

Two SHA-256 digests

Compare

✓ Equal

Practical tip

Compare in constant time in production code (crypto.timingSafeEqual) so hash-verification endpoints do not leak via timing.

How to use this Hash Generator

  1. 1Use the live tool above — it runs entirely in your browser and never uploads your data.
  2. 2Paste the sample from the worked example, or use your own input.
  3. 3Copy the result, then adapt the same steps in your editor, script, or pipeline.

Compare Two Hash Values FAQs

Can two different files share a hash?

For SHA-256 that is not a practical attack. For MD5 and SHA-1, collisions can be constructed.

Why do my hashes not match?

Usually a trailing newline, a different encoding, or seconds vs milliseconds if you hashed a timestamp.
