Epoch to Date Converter

Epoch time counts seconds since 1 January 1970 UTC. Logs, databases and APIs love it, humans do not. Paste a number and the converter shows the matching date in UTC and in your local timezone.

Worked example: Seconds since the epoch to a date

Epoch (seconds)

1700000000

UTC date

2023-11-14 22:13:20 UTC
2023-11-14T22:13:20.000Z

Practical tip

Count the digits. 10 digits is seconds and 13 digits is milliseconds. Mixing them up is the number one cause of dates in 1970 or the year 55000.

Epoch to Date Converter FAQs

What is the Unix epoch?

The epoch is 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970. A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds that have passed since then, ignoring leap seconds.

Is epoch time affected by timezone?

No. A timestamp is the same instant everywhere. Timezones only affect how that instant is displayed as a local date.
