Convert a Date to a Unix Timestamp

Need the timestamp for a specific date, such as a launch time or a cache expiry? Enter the date and time and the tool returns the Unix timestamp in seconds, ready to paste into code or a database query.

Worked example: A UTC date to epoch seconds

Date (UTC, ISO 8601)

2026-01-01T00:00:00Z

Unix timestamp

1767225600

Practical tip

Be explicit about timezone. 2026-01-01 00:00 in New York and in Tokyo are different timestamps nearly a day apart.

Convert a Date to a Unix Timestamp FAQs

Does the timestamp change with daylight saving time?

No. The timestamp for an instant never changes. Only the local date and time that map to it shift when clocks change.

Is the result in seconds or milliseconds?

Seconds, which is the classic Unix format. Multiply by 1000 for JavaScript's Date, which uses milliseconds.
