Beautify SQL JOIN Queries

Format multi-table SQL JOIN queries so every join and ON condition sits on its own line. Paste your query and read the relationships clearly.

Beautify SQL JOIN Queries

Queries with four or five joins are hard to follow on one line. The formatter puts each JOIN and its ON condition on separate lines, so you can check that every table is connected the way you intend.

Worked example: Four-table INNER JOIN query

Input

select c.name, o.id, p.title, oi.quantity from customers c inner join orders o on o.customer_id = c.id inner join order_items oi on oi.order_id = o.id inner join products p on p.id = oi.product_id where o.total > 100 order by o.id;

Formatted JOIN query

SELECT
  c.name,
  o.id,
  p.title,
  oi.quantity
FROM
  customers c
  INNER JOIN orders o ON o.customer_id = c.id
  INNER JOIN order_items oi ON oi.order_id = o.id
  INNER JOIN products p ON p.id = oi.product_id
WHERE
  o.total > 100
ORDER BY
  o.id;

Practical tip

After formatting, confirm each JOIN has an ON clause. A missing one produces a cartesian product and an unexpectedly huge result set.

  3. 3Copy the result, then adapt the same steps in your editor, script, or pipeline.

Beautify SQL JOIN Queries FAQs

Does it support LEFT, RIGHT and FULL joins?

Yes. All standard join types are recognized and formatted onto their own lines.

Will it reorder my joins?

Never. Formatting preserves the order of every clause so your query behaves exactly as before.
